Github over IPv6 (Updated May 2025)

Updated May 10th, 2025

Github predefines to IPv6 when a dual-stack exists and on IPv6-first servers but, unfortunately, it doesn't have published Internet routes at this moment via IPv6 (has the address, but doesn't route the address).

Since May 10th, 2025, C-Servers has now the Github issue sorted out, in the following fashion:

  • New customers from May 11th, 2025 - We have changed the NAT64/DNS64 gateway provider. The new provider allows direct access to Github.com as usual, which will be possible using the IPv6 version of the commands curl, ping and similar tools (e.g. ping6, curl -6).
  • Current customers - We have also changed the default NAT64/DNS64 gateway provider at the IP level, but this may not outright reflect on your VPS at the DNS level, or it coud take some time to change. You can either: manually change the DNS resolvers on your particular VPS (to 2001:67c:2960::64 and 2001:67c:2960::6464), or use a Github IPv6 proxy among the several available on the Internet.
