Known Issues on VintageVPS

Old systems, buggier systems, always bring with them their fair share of challenges and difficulties.

This is the full list of known issues on our VintageVPS product:

Virtualizor

- When managing the VPS basic functions, restarting or asking for a shutdown is not supported. Only 2 functions are directly supported: power off on the VPS (same function as cutting the electricity on a PC), and power on. If you attempt to e.g. restart, you'll have to wait for the system to give you a timeout in order to correct your command (~2/3 minutes).

- Reinstalling any OS demands that a password is written, but that password is not used later on. The system reverts to the template's standard, which either doesn't have a password, or has a predefined password ("root" for SuSE Linux).

- The system takes longer than usual to start the VPS from a shutdown, hovering around 60 seconds at the panel level for the VPS to be started. For SuSE Linux, an extra 30 seconds are added.

- No keyboard functions work on the NoVNC's side menu (icon "A"). Also on NoVNC, rendering may be slower than going through VNC, NX or xrdp.

Windows Me

- Upon the first boot, the system will launch the New Hardware Wizard and attempt to install some drivers. You can simply click Next or Cancel on the windows that open, and later on check if anything has gone missing; if it did, you can always load an ISO to your system and install.

- If you have a B/W image loaded, ensure you have "VGA Graphics" activated on your Virtualizor settings and with available VRAM.

- Dxdiag doesn't work for 3D tests and sound tests due to the incorporation of MesaD3D/WineD3D libraries on Windows effectively changing relevant libraries.

- The system, despite being the most stable of the Win9x systems, may occasionaly give a BSOD as expected of the 9x line, but nothing serious.

- Administrator account has no predefined password; you can define one on your own.

- Sound needs to have their ports configured at Virtualizor in order for you to access externally sound on the VPS. You may also need to launch the VPS with an AC97 QEMU parameter for the system to detect sound internally.

Mandrake Linux 8.2

- Upon every boot, the system insists on launching an automatic hardware detection, adding an extra 30 seconds of delay.

- Black screen for several seconds upon each start.

- Mouse not 100% precise, with lower DPIs than expected.

- Keyboard doesn't work on boot, only within the Linux distribution.

- May not detect network out of the box; additional driver may be necessary. Otherwise, simply use it without any network with ISOs.

SuSE Linux 8.2

- ACPI and PAE are absolutely essential in order for SuSE Linux 8.2 to boot, otherwise it refuses to boot and gives a permanent black screen.

- Renderization of the startup menu is slightly slower than usual, but upon desktop boot, everything's normal.

- Mouse not 100% precise, with lower DPIs than expected.
